Bruckner: Symphony No.9 - Sergiu Celibidache, Münchner Philharmoniker (Celibidache Rehearses Bruckner Symphony No.9), Vokietija, 1991
Celibidache rehearses Bruckner No. 9 Münchner Philharmoniker, Sergiu Celibidache (conductor) In his late years, Sergiu Celibidache (1912-1996) focused his attention on one particular composer: Anton Bruckner. In March 1991 he rehearsed Bruckner's Ninth in unusually long and intense sessions with the Munich Philharmonics. Using unpublished footage, this film shows the individual stages of this tantalizing process of a seemingly familiar piece being rediscovered. Again and again Celibidache interrupts the musicians to communicate his sharply articulated thoughts. Theory and practical work aren't opposed anymore. In addition to the rehearsals, the film also shows interviews with Celibidache and accompanies him to St. Florian, near Linz in Upper Austria, where Bruckner was buried. Directed by Jan Schmidt-Garre |

The Sound Weavers: Ludovico Einaudi, Hauschka, Joep Beving, Hania Rani (Die Klangweber - Die Neoklassiker Ludovico Einaudi, Hauschka, Joep Beving, Hania Rani), Miuziklas, Vokietija, 2021
The Sound Weavers: Ludovico Einaudi, Hauschka, Joep Beving, Hania Rani Sold-out concerts, millions of albums sold to make the classical music industry green with envy: neoclassical, as the new musical trend is called, is a mega hit. What makes the form so popular? Is this music skillful or just comforting? Are its composers Mozart 2.0 or rather maestros for the masses? Do they build a bridge to the musical past, allowing our ears to roam comfortably in familiar territory? The documentary traces the journey of some of the protagonists of the genre by telling their stories, and seeking answers from sociologists, neuroscientists, musicologists and even marketing experts. But above all, it allows these creators - these weavers - to have their say. Directed by Anne-Kathrin Peitz 2021 |

La Típica Melingo - Banlieues Bleues (La Típica Melingo - Banlieues Bleues), Prancūzija, 2022
LA TÍPICA MELINGO Recorded at the Nouveau Théâtre de Montreuil, April 13th, 2022 The iconoclast Melingo revisits his cursed tangos with a large orchestra typical of the balls of the 40s in Buenos Aires. He is one of the most fascinating artists of the Argentinean scene. Singer and actor with a hoarse voice, Melingo oscillates on stage between Charlie Chaplin and Tom Waits, and reinvests since a long time the field of the tango, that of the underworld and the bad boys, with sharpened texts , that he propels in the current events. "My role, as an artist, is to put in poetry and in music the forgotten of the society". He returns to Banlieues Bleues with the Orquesta Típica, directed by Maestro Juan Pablo Gallardo, who has arranged the music of the Maestro by reproducing, with a very feminized team, the historical format of the orchestras that made the whole of Buenos Aires dance in the 1940s. Wagner's Jews (Wagner's Jews), Biografinis, Istorinis, Miuziklas, JAV, 2013
Wagner's Jews Richard Wagner was notoriously anti-Semitic, and his writings on Jews were later embraced by Hitler and the Nazis. But for years, many of Wagner's closest associates were Jews - young musicians who became personally devoted to him, and provided crucial help to his work and career. Why were they drawn to him? And how could Wagner even accept their embrace? These questions are at the heart of 'Wagner's Jews', the first film to focus on Wagner's complex personal relationships with Jews. Filmed on location in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, 'Wagner's Jews' reveals this remarkable story through archival sources, re-enactments, interviews, and performances of original musical works by Wagner's Jewish colleagues. Featuring Zubin Mehta and Leon Botstein among others, the film also explores the ongoing controversy over performing Wagner's music in Israel. The same questions asked in Wagner's time still resonate today: is it possible to separate the art from its creator? Can sublime music transcend prejudice and bigotry, and the weight of history? Rivalry in Music (Die großen Musikrivalen), Miuziklas, Biografinis, Vokietija, 2020
Rivalry in Music - Callas vs. Tebaldi Maria Callas and Renata Tebaldi were the two most famous sopranos of the second half of the last century. Turned into hostile enemies by their admirers, the two became untouchable goddesses of opera. For their fans, Callas was known as "the tigress", Tebaldi as "the voice of an angel": the two singers could hardly have been more different, whether in their professional or private lives. To this day, Callas remains perhaps the greatest soprano of all time. Her rival, Tebaldi, is best known to opera lovers. Why is the posthumous fame of the two prima donnas so different? The life I love - The pianist Menahem Pressler (Der Pianist Menahem Pressler - "Das Leben, das ich liebe"), Biografinis, Miuziklas, Vokietija, 2014
The life I love - The pianist Menahem Pressler The music world has known Menahem Pressler for more than half a century and mainly for his work with the famous Beaux Arts Trio. He was the heart of this ensemble and when in 2008 the trio decided to separate, it was not the end for Menahem Pressler's career - in fact it was the start of a most remarkable and successful path as a soloist and in 2013, the 90-year-old grand seigneur of the piano gave his long overdue debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker. In 'The life I love - the pianist Menahem Pressler', from talks with Pressler over excerpts from one of his Master Classes, to interviews with artists like Daniel Harding, Quatuor Ébène, Leonidas Kavakos or Daniel Hope, we will gain deep insights into the life of this enchantingly "venerable prodigy". In German, "Betroffenheit" denotes a state of shock and disbelief. This unusual ballet was inspired by terrible events in the life of choreographer Young, who lost his daughter, niece, and nephew in a terrible fire during a family vacation. A mix of tap, salsa, spoken-word, song, and puppet show, this stirring artistic statement is guaranteed to stir the emotions with its poignant depiction of personal hardship and of the struggle to come to terms with tragedy, beautifully realized by Kidd Pivot and the Electric Company Theatre on the stage of London's Sadler's Wells Theatre. La grande danza - Aterballetto in Milan (La Grande Danza: Aterballetto in Milan), Italija, 2017
La grande danza - Aterballetto in Milan Choreographies by Jiří Pokorny (Words & Space), Giuseppe Spota (Narcissus), Philippe Kratz (Phoenix) Aterballetto is the principal producing and touring dance company in Italy. They are well-known for their ability to shift their style across a wide range of musical genres, from classical to pop and jazz. Jiří Pokorny's "Words and Space" is a metaphor of an intrapersonal speech, a book full of floating stories. It is personal, intimate, and very poetic. "Phoenix" is inspired by the idea of the infinite circular motion of life: Birth, growth, immobility, death and finally birth once again. Choreographer Philippe Kratz tries to understand who we were and what we are capable to become. In "Narcissus" Giuseppe Spota takes a look at the youth of today. Are they ready to come out of their virtual frames and face the mirror ofeveryday life? Or will they all end up like Narcissus, alone to admire and cherish themselves? Directed by Andreas Morell |
