A tribute to Jacqueline du Pré to mark the thirtieth anniversary of her death, on 19 October 1987. During the episodes, he talks and plays extracts at the piano, illustrating the defining characteristics of Beethoven's compositions and sharing his personal insight into the composer's mindset. For more than six decades, Pierre Boulez has had greater influence on the development of contemporary music than anyone else. Already in younger days, he gained a reputation as a doughty champion of the avant-garde. With his compositions, interpretations, and ideas he indelibly shaped the international music scene - not only as a composer and conductor, but also as a music philosopher and teacher. The documentary "Inheriting the Future of Music: Pierre Boulez and the Lucerne Festival Academy" is a homage to him on the occasion of his 85th birthday on 26 March 2010. For the past five summers, Pierre Boulez and highly gifted young musicians from all over the world have converged for intensive rehearsal weeks during which they learn from the maestro and one another, discuss and play selected compositions, and finally present subsequently the fruits of their labour in a number of outstanding concerts. To convey the fascination for contemporary music, the documentary captures the perspectives of Pierre Boulez and the young conductors, composers, and musicians involved. Their infectious enthusiasm gives viewers an emotional access to the world of new music. Accompanied with retrospective accounts, this endeavour narrates significant experiences and encounters in Boulez' career and gives a graphical depiction of the way he passes these experiences on to his current students. Consequently, this makes selected works by Stravinsky, Stockhausen, and Boulez more approachable. On a different level, it demonstrates how strongly personal experiences leave their mark on individual action, aesthetic sensitivity, and our perception of others.

Rachmaninov revisited Celebrated in his day not only as a great composer, Sergei Rachmaninov was also admired as an outstanding pianist who was a peerless interpreter of his own works including the piano concerti and the Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini. It is well known that he was in effect the sole pianist capable of performing his most demanding Third Piano Concerto and his performances and recording of the concerto came to be considered as the definitive ones. The relationship between performance, interpretation, and Rachmaninov's own life is addressed in this film by young pianists. They explore the evolution of interpretation over the past few decades with brief excerpts of recordings by Rachmaninov as contrasted with contemporary performances by today's well-known young pianists as they comment on the differences (or similarities) of their approach. Filmmakers Andreas Söderberg and Björn Eriksson have been there from early on in the process, making a documentary with an unique insight into Mats Ek's artistic process.
