Closed - A Ballet from Real Life (Closed - A Ballet from Real Life), Norvegija, 2017
Closed - A Ballet from Real Life Many people live in a closed world. What happens to them when they step onto an arena where they can be themselves, free of their usual roles and status? In the film "Closed" we encounter four completely different people who once a week leave their everyday lives and get together in a closed café, where they get the opportunity and help to relax and momentarily distance themselves from reality. These encounters have a certain touch of ritual to them. Then, an alien element is introduced: A famous musician, the cellist Truls Mørk, has been given the proprietor's permission to rehearse a piece that he will later play in town. The music, Zoltan Kodály's Sonata for solo cello Op. 8, is intense and riveting and affects all four of them to an extent that has consequences for them all. The whole thing ends in mayhem, which perhaps was necessary for them all to be able to move on with their lives. Even the café gets a new lease of life, with a new proprietor. Jascha Heifetz - God's Fiddler (God's Fiddler: Jascha Heifetz), Miuziklas, Istorinis, Biografinis, JAV, Rusija, 2011
Jascha Heifetz - God's Fiddler Not since Paganini had there been such a magician on the violin, a musical "wunderkind" who went on to set the standards for nearly a century. Through home movies and personal family photos taken from 1903-1987, this documentary filmed in Vilna, Lithuania, Saint Petersburg, Russia, and in Los Angeles, re-creates a life that spanned the 20th Century. We hear from all the great violinists of his generation, and from many of his former students who are still alive, that Heifetz was a legendary but mysterious figure whose story embodies the dual nature of artistic genius. Is the man and the artist the same person? What is the price each pays? And who was the man behind the music? Directed by Peter Rosen 2011 |

Accident: A family portrait Vilde Frang violin | Francesca Amante, Nataša Novotná, Maja Dworak Strømgren, Line Tørmoen, Viktor Konvalinka, Václav Kuneš, Jo Strømgren, Rostislav Novák Sen. (dead man) Eugène-Auguste Ysaÿe: 6 Sonatas for solo violin In 'Accident', death comes unexpectedly and abruptly to a family that has recently been challenged by the pater familia's marriage to a younger woman. When he dies suddenly, perhaps in a car accident, it becomes extremely important for her to push forward a delayed plan for a family portrait. How to take a family photo where one of the members is no longer alive, and the rest of the family, apart from the young wife, struggle to hide their opposition to the whole project? It is a grotesque task for the photographer, who routinely does everything possible to create a good atmosphere in the studio for his clients. Directed by Jo Strømgren and Stein-Roger Bull 2021 |

Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau: Last Words (Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau : Paroles ultimes), Miuziklas, Biografinis, Prancūzija, 2013
Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau: Last Words The great German baritone Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau was greatly admired for his interpretive insight, note-perfect control of the tonal qualities, and shadings of color in his voice, for exceptional rhythmic sense and impeccable diction. His reputation as a lieder singer is so high - he had a repertoire of more than 3.000 songs - that it is easy to forget his extensive list of operatic roles. In this conversation Fischer-Dieskau reveals for the last time on camera the secrets of his outstanding career. His "Last Words" provide a deep insight into the extraordinary artistic life of one of the most famous and prolific lieder singers of our time. Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau died in May 2012 at the age of 86. Directed by Bruno Monsaingeon 2013 |

Rivalry in Music (Die großen Musikrivalen), Miuziklas, Biografinis, Vokietija, 2020
Rivalry in Music - Callas vs. Tebaldi Maria Callas and Renata Tebaldi were the two most famous sopranos of the second half of the last century. Turned into hostile enemies by their admirers, the two became untouchable goddesses of opera. For their fans, Callas was known as "the tigress", Tebaldi as "the voice of an angel": the two singers could hardly have been more different, whether in their professional or private lives. To this day, Callas remains perhaps the greatest soprano of all time. Her rival, Tebaldi, is best known to opera lovers. Why is the posthumous fame of the two prima donnas so different?

Wagner's Jews (Wagner's Jews), Miuziklas, Istorinis, Biografinis, JAV, 2013
Wagner's Jews Richard Wagner was notoriously anti-Semitic, and his writings on Jews were later embraced by Hitler and the Nazis. But for years, many of Wagner's closest associates were Jews - young musicians who became personally devoted to him, and provided crucial help to his work and career. Why were they drawn to him? And how could Wagner even accept their embrace? These questions are at the heart of 'Wagner's Jews', the first film to focus on Wagner's complex personal relationships with Jews. Filmed on location in Germany, Switzerland, and Italy, 'Wagner's Jews' reveals this remarkable story through archival sources, re-enactments, interviews, and performances of original musical works by Wagner's Jewish colleagues. Featuring Zubin Mehta and Leon Botstein among others, the film also explores the ongoing controversy over performing Wagner's music in Israel. The same questions asked in Wagner's time still resonate today: is it possible to separate the art from its creator? Can sublime music transcend prejudice and bigotry, and the weight of history? The life I love - The pianist Menahem Pressler (Der Pianist Menahem Pressler - "Das Leben, das ich liebe"), Miuziklas, Biografinis, Vokietija, 2014
The life I love - The pianist Menahem Pressler The music world has known Menahem Pressler for more than half a century and mainly for his work with the famous Beaux Arts Trio. He was the heart of this ensemble and when in 2008 the trio decided to separate, it was not the end for Menahem Pressler's career - in fact it was the start of a most remarkable and successful path as a soloist and in 2013, the 90-year-old grand seigneur of the piano gave his long overdue debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker. In 'The life I love - the pianist Menahem Pressler', from talks with Pressler over excerpts from one of his Master Classes, to interviews with artists like Daniel Harding, Quatuor Ébène, Leonidas Kavakos or Daniel Hope, we will gain deep insights into the life of this enchantingly "venerable prodigy". The Sound Weavers: Ludovico Einaudi, Hauschka, Joep Beving, Hania Rani (Die Klangweber - Die Neoklassiker Ludovico Einaudi, Hauschka, Joep Beving, Hania Rani), Miuziklas, Vokietija, 2021
The Sound Weavers: Ludovico Einaudi, Hauschka, Joep Beving, Hania Rani Sold-out concerts, millions of albums sold to make the classical music industry green with envy: neoclassical, as the new musical trend is called, is a mega hit. What makes the form so popular? Is this music skillful or just comforting? Are its composers Mozart 2.0 or rather maestros for the masses? Do they build a bridge to the musical past, allowing our ears to roam comfortably in familiar territory? The documentary traces the journey of some of the protagonists of the genre by telling their stories, and seeking answers from sociologists, neuroscientists, musicologists and even marketing experts. But above all, it allows these creators - these weavers - to have their say. Directed by Anne-Kathrin Peitz 2021 |
