Seg 1 Saccadic Eye Masking. Saccadic eye movements are characterized as the fast movement of eyes when perceiving motion. These are so fast that they are blurred. To compensate for the blurriness, our brains mask these blurred visions to help us see a completed albeit masked version of sight. Seg 2 Plant Movement. While plants do not exhibit movement for locomotion or moving from place to place, they still exhibit movement in response to different stimuli. These movements are plant adaptations for food production, plant reproduction and survival. Seg 3 The Language of Color. Language plays a major role in how people from different parts of the world perceive color. The fact that some languages completely lack terms for some colors that other languages have come to know offers insight on how much influence it has on the way people see colors. Seg 4 Color Blindness. Color blindness is the condition that makes people not able to properly see and perceive colors. Color blindness is the result of damaged or underdeveloped rods and cones. these are the light sensitive cells that can be found in the part of our eyes known as the retina which are responsible for seeing colors. Color blindness can either be genetic or caused by sustained damage to the retina over time. Seg 5 Perspective Illusion. This is a technique used in illustrations to render scenes and objects in 3 dimensions with depth and foreshortening. The technique was pioneered by Italian painters during the renaissance period. It involves drawing objects with reference to points measured from a constant line of sight. |

Wonder (Wonder), Australija, 2020
Seg 1 Body Transfer Illusion. The Body Transfer Illusion is the illusion of perceiving another object to be part of your body. This is best exemplified by the rubber hand experiment where in a volunteer is a shown a rubber hand while their real hand is obscured. Both the fake and real hand is subject to the same stimulus and soon the volunteer will perceive the fake hand as theirs. Seg 2 Autokinetic Effect. The Autokinetic Effect is the effect caused by subtle movements in our eyes when looking at dark environments. This causes stationary light sources to be perceived as moving even though they aren't. Seg 3 Moon Illusion. The Moon Illusion is the illusion where the moon appears to change sizes during different periods in time when especially when it appears closer to the horizon in fact the moon's size remains constant. This happens because we are able to compare the moon's size with visual references like trees and buildings when it appears nearer the horizon. Seg 4 Geometric Illusions. Geometric Illusions are illusions that can literally be illustrated on paper. This type of illusions make use of geometric properties of renderings and illustration and make them appear different in terms of points, length and curvature. Seg 5 Stereoscopy. Stereoscopy is the technique where in our eyes are made to perceive two images that make up one whole image. This technique enables us perceive 3 dimensions from 2 flat image sources. |

Wonder (Wonder), Australija, 2020
Seg 1 Animation. Animation is the process and technique that involves creating the illusion of movement from still drawings and inanimate objects. It is achieved by displaying images with slight variations in a rapid and successive manner thus making our eyes perceive the illusion of movement. Seg 2 Aviation Illusions. Aviation illusions are the sensory illusions associated with taking flight. When pilots take flight their vestibular system, the sensory system responsible for balance, is affected by conflicting stimulus from what the pilot sees and feels during flight. Seg 3 Spinning Dancer. The spinning dancer illusion is an illusion that was created by Noboyuki Kayahara. One can either perceive the dancer as spinning clockwise or counter clockwise. This phenomenon is explained by Bistable perception which states that perception can be altered subjectively just by how an object is observed. Seg 4 Mirage. Mirages are a physical optical phenomenon that can be observed when there is a difference in the temperature in the surrounding air of an area. The different temperatures of the air causes light to refract and cause weird distortions when viewed at the correct angle. This can range from weird reflections to distortions and even the appearance of floating objects. Seg 5 Rainbow Formation. Rainbows are formed as a result of sunlight being refracted and reflected by tiny drops of water in the atmosphere. The water droplets act as prism that can split the sun's white light into the spectrum of visible colors thus creating the effect of a colorful rainbow. |

The history of the British Empire colonial legacy in Northern Ireland is well known the world over but a there is a largely untold story of the the firefights between and close quarter battles exchanged between the provisional IRA, the British army and the elite SAS. Although the IRA often employed "terrorist" techniques within the city of london and on England's mainland not much is said of the often guerilla warfare techniques of the British Special Air Service in Northern Ireland since the beginning of this conflict. In this episode we will examine how the history of the Special Air Service affected the training of every elite force after it and how the close quarter battles in Northern Ireland in the late 1970s through to the millennium shaped both special forces and resistance methods. |

Quirky Science (Quirky Science), Visai šeimai, Singapūras, 2015
Mankind has been flying for over a century. As early as the 1500s Leonardo da Vinci tried to build a flying machine. Drawing inspiration from birds he gave it wings. Unfortunately, his "Ornithopter" didn't work, and indeed, the airplanes of today do not have flapping wings! We also tried it with balloons. Huge 245-metre long airships that needed the guts of between 80,000 to 200,000 cows! But, it was the kite that became the forerunner of the flying machine. A kite made by the now famous Wright brothers. The two brothers were bicycle repairmen, which convinced them that a flying machine could be highly unstable and yet controllable, such as with bicycles. They built their kites as strong as their bicycle frames and used bicycle parts to test their workings. The early Wright planes could manage no more than 65 km/h. Nowadays, a commercial plane can top 800 km/h. What is it that make our current planes fly 12 times faster? Well, one British Royal Air pilot, Frank Whittle, remembered his school experiments with the 'Aeolipile', a piece of ancient Greek engineering. This pilot argued that we could fly faster - if we'd fly higher - because there is less air resistance at high altitudes. The future of aviation has lead to Airbus's A380, the largest passenger plane in the world as well as the scramjet built by NASA. So what will be the next quirky discovery for flight? |

Quirky Science (Quirky Science), Visai šeimai, Singapūras, 2015
Cooling is more than a luxury. Nowadays it is a necessity. Without refrigerated shipping and stocking, fresh food wouldn't reach our supermarket so easily. Can you imagine living without it? Before the invention of the refrigerator, icehouses were used to provide cool storage for most of the year. To cool our food and beverages, blocks of ice were simply cut out of frozen lakes and shipped to far and beyond. The so-called "ice-industry" came to its end when, in the late 1900s, our waters became too polluted to serve as a cool preserving agent. Air-conditioning, on the other hand, was actually invented to control the humidity that was ruining the paper of printing offices, rather than the technology being used to cool you off. The quirky part is, you can't create cold; you can only "move" temperature form one place to another. The first one to find a technology that cooled the inside of a box - the forefather of the refrigerator - was a medical doctor. In fact, he thought he was building a machine to cure malaria. And yet it took over a century after that, before people started using refrigerators, because refrigerators were thought to be dangerous. And they had a point! For a few decades, the refrigerator was something of a killer machine (literally) as they omitted toxic gases that poisoned people… Even Einstein got worried and developed a cooling-machine. And when refrigerators stopped killing people, scientists discovered that refrigerants were harming the environment. All sorts of chemicals have passed through our refrigerator coils, to be discarded… but perhaps we have a new solution: cooling with the vibrations of sound. That does sound cool. |

Race of Life (Race of Life), Apie gamtą, JAV, Čekija, 2015
Almost all animals living in the sea are predators - from small fish to great white sharks and starfish to giant squid. Their bodies have been designed and built to capture prey and avoid becoming prey themselves. Raiders of the Underwater Universe have evolved to become among the more efficient war machines of our planet. There are "predators lurking" as stone fish, cleverly disguising themselves to wait for unsuspecting prey which wander too close. In an episode that illustrates the Race of Life in an underwater world of dangerous predators with razor-sharp teeth, we will see sharks, barracuda and moray eels go about their grisly business. Underwater predators have adapted some fairly extreme measures to hunt and to survive. The fish of the reef need to be fast to escape the barracuda, with its lightning speed and pincushion teeth. And stay on the alert when they swim near the lairs of the moray eel, a large and lethal creature of perhaps surprising grace and beauty. They may be ambushed by the also elegant - but deadly – lionfish. The knitting needle spines of the lionfish are capable of injecting deadly venom. Or if equally unlucky, prey can be sucked into the huge mouth of a stonefish. With so many hungry mouths to feed, it's a jungle down there. |

Diamond River Hunters (Diamond River Hunters), Apie gamtą, Pietų Afrika, 2015
The Operation is in its sixth week and the team is struggling to get both sets of machinery running simultaneously. They are isolated in every possible way and can only rely on themselves to solve the technical problems. Kim returns from a cancer treatment and has brought along his niece Kirsten. Mitch, an investor in the venture, has also joined them. The classifiers are becoming clogged with vegetation that is being pumped from the riverbanks. A risky decision is taken, and the vegetation is burnt off with petrol to save time. This backfires when John, the local foreman is almost badly burnt when petrol under the sand is ignited, and the classifier is almost destroyed. The rainy season begins and problems escalate. The team must devise new strategies to safe guard the equipment and prevent it from being washed away by the now daily thunderstorms. The miners struggle on in spite of the elements. Soon after the 1st period of prolonged rain there is a flash flood and mining has to be halted. Don is concerned by the backlog of bags that still need to be sorted. The sorting table is returned to the lodge and the team take turns sorting the stones, but with no luck. Don carries on sorting bags by himself, upset that no one is willing to go through the backlog. A decision is made to construct a bridge at the 1st river crossing so that the mining site can be accessed again. The massive undertaking is aided by the TLB, but it is back breaking work and the massive boulders have to be laid by hand in the river. As the bridge is almost completed, the river rises by 4 feet and most of it is washed away. The team are frustrated and they are cut off and isolated, losing more and more valuable mining time. Peter, Konrad and Gary travel to the top of the concession and prospect their way back down the valley. They construct makeshift sieves from old mesh and hike down the upper reaches of the river, prospecting as they go. Don and Warren are left to continue with the work of salvaging the bridge. Kirsten resupplies the prospecting team on horseback. After a dangerous two day hike down the valley, the prospectors reach the mining site, but with no diamonds. Don continues to sort the bags and one afternoon he finds 3 large carat diamonds in a bag. The team gathers round the microscope while Peter conducts the tests to determine carat, colour, purity and value. This is the culmination of years of work and all the time searching in the valley over the last few weeks. The team have to pull out of the valley for the remainder of the rainy season. They are unable to continue mining due to the constant rains and have to regroup and plan the 2nd phase of the operation. |

Will We Soon Be Eating In Vitro Meat (La viande in vitro, bientôt dans nos assiettes?), Prancūzija, 2013
Does cultured meat - which numerous scientists in various countries are working on - open up real perspectives for feeding a rising population and for fighting pollution? Or does it represent a false hope? Will the environmental arguments put forward in its favour be enough to convince consumers to eat cultured meat? Is the current commercial success of the first meat-substitute products available on the market heralding a change in what we eat? Would it not be preferable to turn towards insects, given that they are an already established source of protein and, what's more, are natural? This documentary, shot in the US, China, India, France, Holland and Laos, will change the way you see steak - forever! |

Are the Skies Too Crowded? (Y a-t-il trop d'avions dans le ciel?), Prancūzija, 2009
International commercial aviation produces as much CO2 as Africa. The European Union plans to double the numbers of aircrafts by 2020. Can the earth handle a growing number of carbon dioxide-emitting planes in the upper atmospheric strata forever? The reduction of greenhouse gases is one of the main challenges of the 21st century and the aviation industry knows it will have to develop a "sustainable" aviation. Decline or regression is not an option. So, commercial aviation is looking for the answer in a field that has always served it well: scientific and technological innovation all over the world. Luckily, some interesting solutions are actively researched by those who are inventing the eco-friendly aviation of the next 50 years. The film aims to meet the players in an incredible transformation that will ultimately change everything about air travel. |

Desperate Hours (Desperate Hours), Apie gamtą, Kataklizmų, Australija, Čekija, 2016
This gets personal, meaning in this episode we really get under the skin with something that is a threat to us all, wherever we live. The epidemic and its global big brother the pandemic. Earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, volcanoes and all the cataclysms that threaten human life: all of them are terrifying in their own way. But perhaps nothing is more chilling the threat of disease. In recent times, the threat of not merely an epidemic, but a pandemic which could annihilate mankind has somehow never seemed more real. But before we hit the Panic Button, let's brace ourselves by calmly and coolly examining the facts. That means squaring up to the realities of Ebola and Cholera in Africa, SARS and Bird Flu, principally in Asia, but with potential to go global in a flash. There is Smallpox we seem to have defeated, but that's what was thought about Cholera just a few years back - and Cholera has had a resurgence recently. If we are as a species are to endure, we have to be ever vigilant as individuals – don't forget to wash your hands before you handle food for example. But we must also be able to act collectively, when the germ warfare is literal – because epidemics don't recognize territorial borders. |

Desperate Hours (Desperate Hours), Apie gamtą, Kataklizmų, Australija, Čekija, 2015
In this installment, we turn up the heat to examine a natural phenomenon that is both a friend, and a foe to humankind. Some 2 to 400 thousand years ago our ancestors had learned how to create and control fire….. a step vital to human development. We won't quite be going back quite that far on this episode, but we do travel back in time to remind ourselves that dangerous and deadly fires are a fact of life, as immutable as the wind, the rain or the seasons. They can happen anywhere: a smart departmental store in the center of Brussels, a nightclub on Rhode Island where a band called Great White came to play. Their special effects pyrotechnics show caught fire alright. When it did, it killed 100 people, injuring dozens more. Whatever the time and place, firefighters are still expected to go rushing into a burning building as everyone else goes rushing out. Firefighters are required to pull heavy lengths of hose, to scale stairs while carrying giant power tools, and lift 35-foot long wooden ladders. |

Close Quarter Battle (Close Quarter Battle), Veiksmo, Istorinis, Karinis, JAV, Čekija, 2012
In 1968, a new form of military policing was being developed in a rural area north of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department sent an observer to this unit, and he, in turn, took this knowledge back to the LAPD. This contributed to the development of the department's fi rst Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team. This CQB episode takes an historical journey to examine how this incident aff ected and changed police tactics around the world. Using CQB's trademark "sub-second" analysis, the program also looks at how police S.W.A.T. teams train, plan and equip themselves for the challenges of urban combat. The dramatization of a 1980s S.W.A.T. siege of a gang safe-house demonstrates the complicated challenge of protecting innocent people who might be caught in the line of fi re, as well as the specifi cs of the squad's training regimen, how they communicated, and the special equipment they used. |

Race of Life (Race of Life), Apie gamtą, JAV, Čekija, 2015
In this episode we explore the Race of Life on a small scale but no less competive or cruel for all that. Insects burrow through the ground, hop and sing in the trees, and dart and dance in the air. They come in many different colors and shapes. There are many reasons why insects are so successful at surviving. Their ability to survive in all kinds of temperatures and environments. A strong, hard but flexible shell called an exoskeleton covers their soft organs and is resistant to chemicals, water and physical impact. Their wings give them the option of flying away from dangerous situations or toward food or mates. In this episode: Dragonflies hover like helicopters over ponds and lakes, then suddenly dart away, pursuing prey or other dragonflies. The monarch butterfly goes through a miraculous metamorphosis, changing from an egg to a hungry caterpillar to a quiet pupa and emerging as a beautiful winged adult. The praying mantis is master of disguise. Its green body, wings and legs merge into the green, leafy background so carefully it seems to be part of the grass. Perched at an angle, with its spiny forelegs raised in a prayerlike pose, the mantis sits in still rigidness - until another insect such as a fly comes too near and is suddenly captured and devoured. Ants, like bees, hornets and wasps, are social insects and live together in colonies in many-chambered nests. Whatever it takes, to stay in the race. |

Secrets Of the Thracian King (Seuthès l'Immortel, les secrets d'un roi Thrace), Istorinis, Prancūzija, 2009
In August 2004 in Bulgaria, archaeologist Georgi Kitov made a spectacular discovery in the valley of the Thracian Kings, a valley where about twenty temples and royal tombs are located. Kitov accessed a still-intact ancient tomb, which housed incredible wealth, dating back to the 4th century B.C., when Thracian culture was at its height. In front of the gigantic mausoleum, archaeologists found a magnificent, life-sized bronze head, one of the period's finest specimens ever found, and possessing an unsettlingly modern style. Who was this king and what does his tomb tell us about Thracian culture? Was he buried according to the Thracian custom of Orphic rites, and what do we know today about these secret rites that promised eternal life? Research into the deceased's identity revealed the tomb belonged to King Seuthes III. With the help of archaeologists and historians, who decipher the king's vestiges, the film pieces together the puzzle of Seuthes III's life. He was a modern king, who was open to Hellenisation, a warrior king, who was opposed to Macedonian authority, and a priest king, who was committed to preserving Thracian cultural rites. |

Underwater Okavango (Underwater Okavango), Apie gamtą, Pietų Afrika, 2012
The Okavango Delta is one of the richest ecosystems on earth, but most of its creatures are rarely seen by human eyes. They hide beneath the surface, in the intricate underwater world of the Delta. Fearsome hippos and man-eating crocodiles guard these waters, and diving here is considered extremely dangerous. Few humans have ever ventured below the surface, until now. A team of film makers armed with experience and a deep knowledge of animal behaviour have dived the delta for the past year. Their experiences reveal a new, unexplored wilderness that is shaped by passage of the delta's epic winter flood. Every summer, rains that collect in Angola surge down the Okavango River in a giant pulse. Just as the dry season draws near, that pulse reaches the delta, and sets a chain reaction of life in motion. Landscapes flood as the pulse pushes through, and drain in its wake. These forces shape the lives of every creature in the underwater Okavango. The first to feel the effects of the flood are the cave dwellers. The rising tide lifts vast floating carpets of reeds and papyrus off the sand, creating a labyrinth of caves beneath them. Mormyrids and squeakers hunt in the dark, but the live in fear of a far larger predator. Sharp toothed catfish are amongst the Delta's most voracious hunters. They plague the smaller fish, but they in turn are hunted by giant crocodiles. As the pulse pushes into the main delta, tiny fish are sucked into the deep channels behind it. The waters fill with predators that gather to feast on the soup of small fry. The flood keeps pushing further and further out into Botswana, until in the peak of the dry season, it breaks out over dry land. Creatures travel from across Botswana to meet the life-giving tide. Huge elephant breeding herds flee the drought-stricken Kalahari, and walk hundreds of kilometres to reach the flooded delta. Though the water offers life, it harbours death as well. Their tiny infants must navigate crocodile infested floodplains, and face off with lions in the dense reeds. Nowhere is safe, until the flood finally reaches the end of its journey. Just as the rains threaten to bring the dry season to a close, the closing act of the underwater delta launches into action. Birds flock to the disappearing shallows to feast on trapped fish, and the fearsome catfish amass into an army. They charge down the channels by the hundred, and flush fish from the reeds. The stampede of hunters makes the water boil, and entices a new killer to the feast. Fish eagles swoop down one after the other, and snatch catfish from the churning waters. The frenzy of predators builds to a crescendo, until rains finally douse the feast. The wet season marks the end of the flood, but it feeds the beginnings of another. As rainwaters gather once more in the Angolan highlands, the journey of a new pulse begins. This film opens a window on an unexplored landscape of exquisite beauty, and the creatures that must play the daily lottery of life and death within it. |

Diving With Crocodiles (Diving with Crocodiles), Apie gamtą, Pietų Afrika, 2010
In Africa's waterways, one predator reigns supreme - the Nile crocodile. One of the biggest and most deadly reptiles on Earth, it commands a fearsome reputation and strikes terror those who share its domain. Countless attacks in which victims are ruthlessly taken from riverbanks or attacked in their canoes leave no doubt that the Nile crocodile may views humans as natural prey. In fact, the animal was recently reclassified as the number one killer of humans in Africa, overtaking the previous record holder, the hippo. In "Diving with Crocodiles" cameraman and crocodile expert Brad Bestelink undertakes the unthinkable and dives into the waters of the Okavango Delta. Without a cage or any other protection, he gets up close and personal with these fearsome creatures in this groundbreaking film. Such a feat has never been recorded before. But Brad is well prepared - his decision to take the plunge is the result of many years spent studying crocodile behavior in his native Botswana. His window of opportunity to dive is small and dependent on the seasonal ebb and flow of the Okavango. There are only a couple of months each year when visibility in the delta allows for perfect filming conditions. This extraordinary film provides all the high drama associated with modern-day exploration, coupled with the exhilaration of interacting with wild animals. The underwater secrets of the Nile crocodile are revealed with unique and compelling footage in the pristine underwater environment of the Okavango delta. |

Cheetahs Of the Deep (Cheetahs of the Deep), Apie gamtą, Pietų Afrika, 2013
The Canary Islands are sheltered by a mild climate, protected from any extremes of weather. But high up on the towering mountains, the conditions can turn treacherous. In winter, water is released by high altitude storms and fertilized by nutrients washed from the soil. As this drains into the sea the soupy waters around the islands attract a huge variety of life, draw in in from the vast Atlantic Ocean. Many whale and dolphin species congregate in these waters, but above all Short-finned pilot whales are found here in the vast numbers.Isora is the leader and matriarch of one of the largest resident pilot whale pods between Tenerife and La Gomera and we document her activities over a one year period. Several females and their offspring form the hard-core of this close-knit society where all the main family members are related to the mother. Males in the pod also play a role, but not in reproduction, as they are blood relatives. With their vow of chastity, they ensure the protection of newborns and juveniles - a long-term investment which is crucial for pod survival.Physical contact is important for the whales and the film reveals moving and rarely-seen interaction between the older pod members and the new arrivals. But this carefree innocence is undermined by harrowing footage of the effect plastic waste is having on the whales and other species. Large squid are the pilot whales' preferred food source and the best feeding grounds lie a thousand metres deep. But they are masters of deep diving and are involved in titanic battles with the squid on daily basis. As the mothers give birth we examine the close bonds between the new arrivals and the pod, and how the whales deal with the tragic death of one of the calves. This film also looks at other whale and dolphin species which frequent the area, including the rarely seen Risso's dolphin, Brydes Whales and Atlantic Spotted Dolphins. Green sea turtles also frequent the area, attracted by the rich-sea grass beds which surround the islands.Filmed in stunning HD, this film delivers a comprehensive portrait of a unique and protected underwater haven, one of Europe's last frontiers before the mysterious deep Atlantic takes hold. |
