Wagner's Jews Richard Wagner was notoriously anti-Semitic, and his writings on Jews were later embraced by Hitler and the Nazis. But for years, many of Wagner's closest associates were Jews - young musicians who became personally devoted to him, and provided crucial help to his work and career. Why were they drawn to him? And how could Wagner even accept their embrace? These questions are at the heart of 'Wagner's Jews', the first film to focus on Wagner's complex personal relationships with Jews. In German, "Betroffenheit" denotes a state of shock and disbelief. This unusual ballet was inspired by terrible events in the life of choreographer Young, who lost his daughter, niece, and nephew in a terrible fire during a family vacation. A mix of tap, salsa, spoken-word, song, and puppet show, this stirring artistic statement is guaranteed to stir the emotions with its poignant depiction of personal hardship and of the struggle to come to terms with tragedy, beautifully realized by Kidd Pivot and the Electric Company Theatre on the stage of London's Sadler's Wells Theatre. La grande danza - Aterballetto in Milan Choreographies by Jiří Pokorny (Words & Space), Giuseppe Spota (Narcissus), Philippe Kratz (Phoenix) Aterballetto is the principal producing and touring dance company in Italy. They are well-known for their ability to shift their style across a wide range of musical genres, from classical to pop and jazz. Jiří Pokorny's "Words and Space" is a metaphor of an intrapersonal speech, a book full of floating stories. It is personal, intimate, and very poetic. "Phoenix" is inspired by the idea of the infinite circular motion of life: Birth, growth, immobility, death and finally birth once again. Choreographer Philippe Kratz tries to understand who we were and what we are capable to become. In "Narcissus" Giuseppe Spota takes a look at the youth of today. His reputation as a lieder singer is so high - he had a repertoire of more than 3.000 songs - that it is easy to forget his extensive list of operatic roles. In this conversation Fischer-Dieskau reveals for the last time on camera the secrets of his outstanding career. His "Last Words" provide a deep insight into the extraordinary artistic life of one of the most famous and prolific lieder singers of our time.
